  • Worth magazine ranked Merck No. 1 on its list of Top Corporate Givers.

  • Business Week ranked Merck’s board of directors No.12 on its list of best boards in America.

Giving Superior Customer Service

  • Consumers again gave Merck-Medco the highest overall customer satisfaction rating among mail service pharmacies nationwide for the third year in a row in a survey by Caredata.com Consumer Research.
  • In a Scott-Levin survey of managed care medical directors, Merck ranked No. 1 among pharmaceutical companies in disease management.
  • The American Liver Foundation presented Merck-Medco’s Ohio Call Center with a special award for its hepatitis C health management program.

Being a Good Neighbor and Caring for the Environment

  • The American Red Cross honored Merck with its Clara Barton Honor Award for Meritorious Volunteer Leadership for the Company’s blood drive campaign. The American Red Cross also awarded Merck its first corporate achievement award for its pheresis (platelet) donor program.
  • Two Merck sites won the Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence in Pennsylvania for innovative green technologies and environmental management. Merck’s Upper Gwynedd site won an Industrial Recycling Award; West Point won a Pollution Prevention Award.
  • Merck’s Whitehouse Station site received Wildlife Habitat Council Site Recertification (2000-2003) for its continuing successful wildlife management program.
  • Merck's La Vallée site won The Environmental Trophy from the local Prefect of France’s Haute Loire Region in recognition of its excellent environmental program.
  • Merck received the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Watershed Management Award for leadership and support of the Upper Raritan Watershed stream-monitoring project.
  • The Brazilian Communication Association awarded Merck The Aberje Award for the project “Merck Sharp & Dohme – Commitment to the Community and the Environment” in the innovation category.
  • The Georgia Water and Pollution Control Association awarded Merck’s Albany, Ga., site with the Industrial Pollution Control Plant of the Year Award for Operational Excellence.
  • The New Jersey Business and Industry Association presented Merck-Medco with its 2000 “New Good Neighbor” award.
  • The State of Virginia presented Merck with its Governor’s 2000 Partnership in Education award for its efforts to improve academic performance of students.
  • Merck’s Elkton, Va., site and McGaheysville Elementary School were recognized by Governor Jim Gilmore with The Governor’s 2000 Partnership in Education Award. The award recognizes Virginia’s best partnership practices designed to improve students' academic achievement.
  • Former Governor Christine Whitman presented Merck’s Rahway plant with the New Jersey Governor’s 2000 Award for volunteerism in the Mobilization of Other category.
  • Healing the Children recognized Merck’s Rahway site for its volunteer efforts that enabled an ophthalmic medical trip to the Dominican Republic.

Developing Medicines that Contribute to World Health

  • The American Chemical Society honored Merck for the Company’s 1940s research efforts with penicillin.
  • In its Pharmaceutical Company Image 2000 study, market research firm Scott-Levin doctors ranked Merck as one of three pharmaceutical companies with the strongest commitment to research and development.
  • The Global Alliance for Women’s Health honored Merck with its 2000 Public-Private Partnerships for Women’s Health Leadership Award.
  • Drug Discovery and Development magazine named Merck Pharmaceutical Company of the Year for its commitment to innovative drug research and discovery.
  • Merck Frosst won the Les Mercuriades from the Chamber of Commerce of Quebec for its development and research in technological innovation.
  • The Venezuelan Association of Executives of the Pharmaceutical Industry recognized Vioxx as the best product performance in 12 months, Singulair as the best product in the respiratory class and Propecia as best product in the dermatological class.
  • Merck Frosst won the Prix Galien Canada 2000 Innovative Product award for the development and marketing of Singulair.
  • Singulair won the Prix Galien MEDEC award for the best drug of year 2000 in France.
  • MSD Belgium accepted the 1999 Galenus Prize for Vioxx for the most innovative molecule for human health use.
  • MSD won the Prix Galien Portugal 1999 for most innovative product launched in 1999 for Singulair.

Putting a Priority on Safety

  • The U.S. National Highway Safety Administration awarded Merck’s Arecibo plant the National Traffic Safety Administration Award for the use of seatbelts. The gold status is awarded to facilities with employees using seatbelts over 90 percent of the time. Arecibo achieved 98 percent.
  • Merck’s Ballydine, Ireland, site won the 1999 National Industrial Safety Organization Large Company Safety Award.
  • Merck’s Danville, Pa., plant received the Governor of Pennsylvania’s Safety Award for its outstanding contribution to safety during the past five years.
  • Merck’s Cramlington, U.K., plant earned its second consecutive annual British Safety Council Five Star Award.
  • Mexico's Federal Labor Authority awarded Merck’s Mexico City plant a Certification of Appreciation for its on-site disaster drill and implementing Safety, Environmental and Industrial Hygiene Awareness Week.
  • Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower honored Merck’s Singapore site with the Developers/Owners Safety Construction Safety Performance Award “in recognition of the effort and contribution to the outstanding safety performance of the construction project.”
  • The Building Contractors Association of New Jersey recognized Merck as the Owner of the Year for its significant capital investment at Rahway and for advancing excellence in construction methods and safety.
